Pro-breastfeeding, boob-nazi or just obsessed?

Friday, March 30, 2012

A pro-breastfeeder has a friend who is expecting soon. She did all her best to advocate breastfeeding to her friend. She shares information, and her own experience as well as recommending breastfeeding tools or information source for her friend’s benefits. She makes sure that the friend understands the importance of breastfeeding.

A pro-breastfeeder understands that breastfeeding brings different sets of challenges to the mother and baby, and not everyone is as lucky as the other. A pro-breastfeeder understands that perseverance and determination is the utmost importance in a breastfeeding process.

A pro-breastfeeder helps as much as she can, once her friend has given birth, and again, as much as the friend is willing to receive. A pro-breastfeeder never judges the decision of a mother in regards of breastfeeding, because again, each mother and child has different circumstances.

A boob-nazi has a friend who is expecting soon. She did all she could to make sure that her friend breastfeeds, to a point of being negative and punishing if the friend chose not to.

A boob –nazi made child nutritions alternative sounds like poison, and makes a bad impression on a mother who does not breastfeed the child.

A boob-nazi chose not to understand the real challenges of breastfeeding, seeing only her own success in breastfeeding (if it happens that she did). She will never learn to accept that each mother and child has their own circumstances, and their own needs.

A boob-nazi is judgemental towards a mom who chose not to breastfeed, or to those who supplement with formula. She makes the mom felt like she is the worst mother in the world.

Just obsessed.
Facebook status “Yeay, today 50oz”. Upload a picture of her milk. Into an album full of milk photos. She should change her facebook name to My Milk or something.

And then she brags. Making even other moms who produce a normal quantity of milk a day, feel like losers.

Twitter, “Oh nooo…today only 10oz :(((( ”. Cries and sobs like there is no tomorrow.

Next day, take picture again. This time the deep-freezer, full of milk. Oh, and the freezer compartment of the fridge too.

Gosh. They brag. Big time!

So which one are you?

The key is moderation, for when you are moderate in anything you do; you are doing it right.

“O you who believe! Make not unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, but Commit no excess: for Allah loves not those given to excess."

“Wahai orang-orang yang beriman! Janganlah kamu haramkan benda-benda yang baik-baik yang telah dihalalkan oleh Allah bagi kamu, dan janganlah kamu melampaui batas (pada apa yang telah ditetapkan halalnya itu); kerana sesungguhnya Allah tidak suka kepada orang-orang yang melampaui batas.”

{Surah Al-Maidah, Ayat 87}
